Coffee & Cake

A total of £330 was raised for Cornwall Hospice Care with a busy and succesful coffee morning here at Lobbs Farm Shop on Saturday 11th Feb. Organised by Gill and Caroline who, between them, produced a beautiful array of cakes and savouries. There were also lovely contributions in the shape of pasties and cakes made by Kathy, cakes from Mandy and Anne, a quiche from Caroline’s Mum & a cake from Caroline’s Aunty!  Thank you to all who attended, helping make it such a brilliant coffee morning!

Bags of Good

In February of this year we started charging 5p for a carrier bag in an effort to encourage people to bring their own bags to the shop. We do our best to reduce, re-use and recycle within the business and your support is much appreciated. However there is an upside to not bringing your own bag as the carrier bag fee since February has amounted to £800! This money has been distributed to local schools and several have written to us describing which projects have been supported. Recently Probus School have used our donation to buy apple trees for their new orchard. Mevagissey School is developing its new gardening club, Gorran school is using the donation to support their art week and Tywardreath School’s project is the refurbishment of the swimming pool. Other schools which have benefited are, St Mewan, Tregony, Charlestown, Grampound, Veryan & Grampound Road.

So, try to remember to bring your bag but if you don’t, don’t panic, you’re supporting a good cause!

Christmas Party Food & Cake Decorating

On Saturday 12th November there’ll be a lovely cookery demo with our very own Helen & Annie. Helen will be showing you how to make some delicious Christmas nibbly food for parties or just a bit of self indulgence! Annie will concentrate on decorating cakes for Christmas. It was a great demo last year, well attended and good fun with some great cakes beautifully decorated! So this year we’re doing it all over again, booking is essential as spaces are limited. Give Gill or Annie a ring at the Farm Shop for more information and bookings 01726 844411 meanwhile, here’s a couple of photos from last year:

The Times Best Farm Shops

Hurrah! Lobbs Farm Shop made it to number 7 in the Times list of best farm shops in the UK! Well done to everyone at Lobbs and thank you to all the loyal customers!

Steak Kebabs

A lovely idea for the barbecue, if you’re getting tired of sausages and burgers! Take a chunk of Rump Steak from our butchery counter, slice it into cubes, mix it with a sachet of Secret Chef Beef Rub ( a mix of Paprika, Black Pepper, Sea Salt, Muscovado Sugar, Horseradish, Thyme, Coriander & Marjoram) thread with slices of red pepper, brush with a little oil and plonk them on the barbecue. Very easy, very quick and absolutely delicious. Now all we need is a little bit of Bank Holiday sunshine!
p.s you can find the beef rub on the shelves to the right of the butchery counter in the Farm Shop.

Chiman’s Spices

We now stock some lovely spice blends from Chiman’s in the farm shop. There’s The Colonel’s Curry, Aloo Gobi (Spiced Cauliflower & Potato) and Bombay Potatoes, all with easy to follow recipes on the back they bring a deliciously authentic taste of India into your kitchen. Each sachet will make a meal for 4 – 6 people.
Chiman’s was founded in Devon in 1990 by Chimanlal Agarwal who was originally from Bombay. He bought a shop in Barnstaple to sell natural foods to the local community. It was whilst running the shop, he started blending spices together and sold them with recipes for his own Indian meals printed on the back of the sachets. It allowed people to create authentic Indian dishes easily and conveniently at home. Chiman’s is now run by his children, Sally & Danny Agarwal who share their father’s commitment to excellence and integrity.

Also now in stock are some store cupboard essentials from Secret Chef, a Newquay based company who supply quality herbs, spices, rubs and seasonings. You can find them in the farm shop just next to the Butchery counter along with the Chiman’s spice blends.

Farm Tours

There’ll be free farm tours running from Lobbs Farm Shop on the 16th, 23rd & 30th August (all tuesdays if you were wondering). Not much notice for today’s tour I’m afraid! But get yourself along to the next couple for an interesting ride around the farm where you can meet the animals & learn how the farm works. Given the lovely scenery it’s also a nice opportunity to take in the beautiful trees and landscapes. Please book in advance on 01726 844411.
